Gettysburg Address

This week's US News and Report cover story is about Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The cover story calls the speech the America's greatest speech.

Not being an expert on all the great speeches orated in American history, I was somewhat skeptical... till I read the first line. All great speeches need a good beginning and this one is pretty good.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth upon this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Add to this speech the time, the circumstances and the tragedy and you'd have to say, Lincoln delivered an amazing speech.

I know it's not fair to compare but I just don't see our current President coming out with a speech like that...
